Type: Urban Agriculture Project involving Digital Integration, Prospecting the future for self-sustaining satellite cities
The underlying concept of the Agronomic Colony was to create a resilient community using urban farming as a catalyst. This is a bold concept and was mostly an attempt at creative expression. The concept is broken down largely into two elements. First being the production of the agriculture or resource, and second the distribution of the resources. The strategy was to also involve community participation in the growing process.
The colony is formed primarily through a terraced hillside and other local green zones for food production. The slope of Mt Victoria provided the best location as its surface area could support a large amount of crop production and expand recreational prospects to the existing Mt Victoria lookout.
The agronomic mountain was strategically positioned to link with the hospital because it supports the concept of biophilic wellbeing. Nature, gardening and community social interaction are all elements that improve human health and could be a significant asset to the Wellington hospital and its staff and patients.
